New Perspectives

We have had a number of people ask about the dimensions, perspectives and the actual, final position of the sculpture, so we have put together some photos and an updated drawing of the Cathedral Lawn – in the hope that we can answer those questions.

The Cathedral Lawn is currently in a state of anticipation – anticipating the completion of the restoration of the Burt Memorial Hall (BMH) the redevelopment of the Old Treasury Building (OTB) and the development of Cathedral Square to the North of the Cathedral and the ultimate landscaping of the gardens and the installation of the commissioned artwork.

Have a look at the Cathedral Lawn Update under ‘Site Plans’ and the photos relate to the added detail on the plan.

The selected artwork may be positioned in either A, B or C, however if your vision includes the area from St George’s Terrace up the slope of the lawn to the Cathedral that will also be considered – we do not want to stifle your creativity, rather give you the opportunity to interpret the space and the place.

One option being considered is a new staircase from St George’s Terrace (where the middle red arrow is pointing) to the South West Door – where C may be positioned on the level half way up the stairs.

Cathedral Avenue is between the Cathedral and the OTB and is a small laneway. The future traffic on this road will vary depending on the development of the OTB.

The new photos on the website (under site plans) show the Cathedral and the Lawn area at about 3.30pm on a Perth winter day with the sun shining on the West Ceremonial Entrance – the West Rose window is stunning inside the Cathedral at this time of day.  I have included the perspectives from each of A, B & C which I hope will give you an idea of the space and place.
