Good News - submission dates extended

There has been unprecendented interest in our world-wide search for a public artwork for St George’s Cathedral in Perth Western Australia.

There has been a very enthusiastic response from artists from across the world – it has been very exciting receiving not only the online submissions, but also many through the mail with so many interpretations of the theme and responses to the story.

A decision has been made to extend the time for the submissions, both as a result of the strength of the applications already received, and also because of some requests for more time – we don’t want restrict the opportunity and to allow as many artists as possible to be part of the process.

Also, we have some new timelines for the ongoing restoration work on the site which will impact on the previous dates for the final exhibition.

We understand, particularly for international artists, that we need to provide as much time as possible for planning, transport etc.

The new timeline, is as follows:

Submissions close                                      First week in December 2008

People’s Choice voting                               December 2008 to February 2009

Finalist announced                                     February 2009

Exhibition and commission announced          June 2009

We want to thank all of you who have already sent through your proposals, and encourage those of you who may be running out of time to submit within the new time frame.
