The search is over - after hours
of intense debate and weighing up the pros
and cons a decision has been made.

The winner of the People's Choice is Gil Bruvel's St George and the Dragon.

The winner of the St George's Cathedral Public Artwork Commission is Marcus Canning and Christian de Vietri's Ascalon.

The Selection Panel was driven by the Dean's vision to commission an artwork that would inspire people to question and to explore the meaning of the legend of St George - an artwork that would transcend the physical and take us to a higher place. The public put their case strongly in a total of over 6,000 votes. Their voice was heard and taken very seriously in the panel's deliberations.

In the words of the Dean, the Very Reverend Dr John Shepherd:

"Above all, we looked for a work that would give permission to imagine, to stimulate fresh insights into the mystery of good, evil, life - something that stimulated in us a sense of transcendence, something we could turn like a diamond in our mind, and see new implications for living - a spiritual stimulus."
